Primary Teaching Area

The mesostructures influence the macromechanical properties of asphalt mixes, however, it is of difficulty to investigate the mechanism of mesostructural influence on macromechanical properties using conventional approaches. Based on digital image processing and discrete element method (DEM)/finite element method (FEM), the relationship between aggregate distribution/homogeneity and performance-related properties of asphalt mixes has been investigated, and some conclusions have also been obtained.
Meanwhile, green road construction technologies, with a sustainable, energy-saving and environment-friendly characteristic, have also been invented and applied in the field projects, for instance, rubber asphalt (RA) pavement, low noise pavement, cool pavement, Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), warm mix asphalt (WMA), snow and ice self-melting technologies.
