Institute of Urban and Rural Planning Theories and Technologies

    The Institute of Urban and Rural Planning Theories and Technologies (IURPTT) at Zhejiang University, formerly known as the Institute of Urban Planning Engineering and Information Technology, was established in May 2006 and changed its name to IURPTT in July 2015.  Its main research area includes theories in urban and rural planning, application of information technology and engineering technology. Currently, the institute has nine full-time faculty members, including one full professor, six associate professors, one special research fellow and one lecturer. 

 

    IURPTT develops its research and practice primarily in the Yangtze Delta, but with a world perspective.  It aims to explore the new frontier of science.  The faculty members of IURPTT are the PIs of nearly 20 national and provincial research projects, including those of the National 863 Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Foundation, the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Program, the Humanities and Social Science Program of the Ministry of Education, etc. The projects integrated theories and technologies of urban complexity, urban planning, remote sensing, geographic information science, urban heat island, green infrastructure, urban growth management, housing and urban transportation.  IURPTT has partnership with many oversea universities and institutes, including the Naidao Research Center, Chinese Cultural University, etc.  It has also close cooperation with local governments in the planning of villages, cities, and metropolitan regions, and has participated in various regional and urban cluster plans, master plans, detailed plans, site design and different thematic plans.  IURPTT has published a dozen of academic books, textbooks and translated books, and over 100 first-authored peer-reviewed articles in international and domestic journals, including Environment and Planning B, Landscape and Urban Planning, Land Use Policy, Cities, Habitat International, Sustainability, etc.  Faculty members of IURPTT have been rewarded many prizes in urban planning and landscape architecture, including the Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award, the Excellent Landscape Planning and Design of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, and the Excellent Thesis of the Urban planning Society of China, etc.
