The Institute of Engineering Materials of Zhejiang University is affiliated with Department of Civil Engineering of Zhejiang University, which was founded in 1927 and was one of the earliest established departments of civil engineering in China. After continuous efforts, the institute of building materials was founded on this basis to adapt to subject development and the new train of industrialization of scientific research project.
At present, there are 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 4 senior engineers,1engineer and 12 staffs as employees of the enterprise in the institute of building materials. Our research is mainly focus on: concrete technology, building energy efficiency, Nano-materials, high-speed railway materials, water proof materials, solid waste recycling, green building materials and construction industrialization. In recent years, we are undertaking 2 items of national natural science fund, 1 item of major international cooperation projects of national natural fund, 1 item of 863 high-tech projects,1 item of 973 national key basic research projects,2 items of National Science & Technology Pillar Program during the 11th Five-year Plan Period, 4 items of National Science & Technology Pillar Program during the 12th Five-year Plan Period and more than 10 items of provincial projects. At the same time, a large number of projects for enterprises were undertaken. The average annual funding is near 10 millionin recent years. We have won two provincial first prizes, five provincial second prizes; 13 national invention patents, 18 utility new type patents, 2 transferred patents. Besides, we have published 60 SCI/EI papers, 30 domestic journal papers, 3 textbooks, 2 national industrial standards and 5 local standards. We are in line with the concept of "realistic and innovative" for scientific research and in the process of completion each type of project accumulated lots of experience. In the successful completion of the national scientific research tasks, we also actively promote advanced building materials and energy-saving technologies to the enterprise at the same time, and formed good economic and social benefits, which has played a positive role in promoting local construction.
