On February 1, 2016, the Ministry of Education gave its seal of approval to set up ZJU-UoE Institute, Zhejiang University, and ZJU-UIUC Institute, Zhejiang  University as two Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run institutes, which marks the beginning of a substantially significant phase for Haining International Campus.

 The examination and approval of Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools is a highly policy-oriented and standardized administrative procedure. The Ministry of Education adopts stringent regulations regarding the quality and investment of foreign educational resources, the major designing, educational program and degree conferment of cooperatively-run institutes as well as their operational pattern. Meanwhile, Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools shall follow a series of procedures, including preliminary evaluations by a panel of experts, rectifications in accordance with relevant opinions and suggestions and the examination and approval of relevant departments. Moreover, while obtaining the approval of running Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run institutes, ZJU was confronted with unprecedented difficulties and challenges in terms of the number of institutes, the level of educational programs, majors available, admission policies and educational venues. School leaders gave high priority to the entire examination and approval process. Party Chief Jin Deshui and President Wu Zhaohui paid special visits to the Ministry of Education to brief relevant leaders, including Education Minister Yuan Guiren, on the preparations of our university and strive for supporting policies. Leaders of the Ministry of Education, relevant departments such as the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges and experts lauded the Chinese-foreign educational pattern of our university and rendered tremendous support accordingly.

The establishment of ZJU-UoE Institute, Zhejiang University, and ZJU-UIUC Institute, Zhejiang  University will facilitate ZJU’s intimate connection with world-class universities, open up new opportunities for disciplinary development, and lay a solid foundation for the construction of Haining International Campus. Currently, International Campus is promoting the construction of China-US Business School with the University of Pennsylvania and Peking University and the construction of the overseas educational base of Imperial College London. In the meantime, it is gearing up for its launch in September in every aspect, including campus construction, supporting facilities, faculty and staff, and administrative regulations. The launch of International Campus will help propel the globalization of the ZJU community, accelerate the construction of the educational system of ZJU, and play a beneficial role in creating a top university across the globe.
