Title:Modelling Hydraulic Engineering Problems Using A Mesh-free Method

Time: 10th. May  2016 10:00-12:00am

Site:A322 Anzhong Building

Reporter:Dr. Yee-chung Jin

Biography: Dr. Yee-chung Jin earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada. He received his bachelor degree from National Cheng-Kung University, Taiwan and MSc degree from Auburn University, USA. He was employed by the Atomic Energy of Canada for two years as a Hydrogeologist before he joined the University of Regina as an assistant professor in 1990. He became a full professor in 2000. He teaches undergraduate courses in hydraulics, groundwater and geotechnical engineering. He also teaches graduates level courses in environmental hydraulics, open channel flow and groundwater modeling. Dr. Jin is an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering. He has published over 65 referee papers in ASCE, CJCE, Journal of Hydrology, Journal of Hydraulic Research and other journals.

His research interest includes: the use of depth-averaged equations for the prediction of flow and mass transport in open channels, the effect of the secondary flow in modeling the contaminant transport in rivers, studies on transverse dispersion in rivers, the bed shear distribution in open channels, modeling bed variations in alluvial channels, model one-dimensional unsteady water flow through unsaturated swelling soil, modeling the advective and dispersive mass transport in groundwater systems using finite element method, hydrological modeling of watershed, and modeling/monitoring the contamination movement along highways due the application of deicing salt.
