On May 12th and 13th, the international joint workshop on the topic of “Gated vs. Open” was successfully conducted in Yueya Building in Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University. It is led by our Department of Architecture and International Center for Architecture & Urban Development Studies in Zhejiang University, in cooperation with Bauhaus Dessau. Bauhaus, as the birthplace of Modernism Architecture and the cradle of general design discipline, has a great contribution to art and design. It is also the first institute in the world that is established mainly for the education of design. In this workshop, teachers and students from both sides have shown their capacity through intense discussion and efficient work, which also received positive feedback.
In this “Gate vs. Open” workshop, teachers and students from China and Germany discussed the possibility of accessible community in China. This topic is also the main theme of “1st Zhejiang University International Dialogue on Urban & Rural Development” that will be hold at the end of this June, making this workshop a successful rehearsal of that international event.
This workshop is led by Professor Peter Ruge and professor Stefan Worbes from Bauhaus Dessau, in cooperation with Lorenzo Barrionuevo, Tao Lin and Jiaqi Wang from Zhejiang University, guiding 30 students from different country and different discipline. Moreover, Academician Shuoxian Wu, who is the Qiushi Chair Professor of Zhejiang University, Professor Yue Wu, who is the dean of Department of Architecture, and also Professor Qingping Luo, who is the executive director of Department of Architecture, have attended the final presentation and made a great communication with teachers and students in this workshop.
