The High-end Forum of International Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy & the 7th Forum of Bridge and Tunnel Engineering Technology were held on September 27th in Zijingang Campus, Zhejiang University. The forums were hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Beijing Mao Yi-sheng Science and Technology Education Foundation, and organized by the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhejiang University. The theme of the forums is Sustainable Development of Bridge and Tunnel Engineering. More than 300 people participated in the forums, including seven academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, five academicians from the United States, Britain, Austria, Korea and other countries, as well as representatives from China Railway, China Academy of Railway Sciences and other corporations, elites from bridge engineering industry and teachers and students from Zhejiang University. The forums are chaired by Professor Yaozhi Luo, Dean of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Academician Yongbin Yang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, General Chair of the forums, Prof. Shilin Dong from CCEA, made an opening statement, in which he extended a warm welcome to all the guests and attached great importance to the Qiantangjiang Bridge. He proposed a healthy monitoring of the bridge operation and scientific methods of the bridge maintenance, and wished an early realization of the Chinese dream to transform from a big nation of bridge building to a strong one.
On behalf of Zhejiang University, Deputy Secretary ofCPC Committee of ZJU, Min Ye, expressed warm congratulation to the high-end forum and welcome to the delegates. He reviewed the profound relation between Zhejiang University and Mr. Mao Yi-sheng and hoped that CCEA would take advantages of its comprehensive disciplines to play an active role in national major projects through the forums.
During keynote speech, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Yongbin Yang, Academician of USA National Academy of Engineering, Foreign Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Wenzhong Deng, Academician of Chinese Academy of Science, professor of CCEA, ZJU, Yunmin Chen, Academician of UK Royal Academy of Engineering Naeem Hussain, Chief Engineer of China Communications Construction Company ltd. Ming Lin, Vice President of China Association for Science and Technology, Chief Engineer of China Railway, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Executive Vice Chairman of Beijing Mao Yi-sheng Science and Technology Education Foundation Huawu He, Academician of Austrian Academy of Science Herbert A. Mang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhengqing Chen, Academician of USA National Academy of Engineering Ahsan Kareem, and Chief Engineer of Hangzhou Track Maintenance Division, Shanghai Railway Bureau Fang Liu and many other scholars have given wonderful lectures, the contents of which involve the frontier theory, basic research and engineering application practice of bridge and tunnel at home and abroad.
During the free discussion session, all the experts have had a heated discussion, and Academician Yongbin Yang made a concluding statement at the end of the forums.
