On the morning of 9th November, 2017, the “2017 West Lake Forum of Geotechnical Engineering: Geotechnical Testing Technology” was held at West Lake, Hangzhou. The conference was sponsored by the Civil Engineering and Hydraulic Engineering Department of Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of China Civil Engineering Society, Zhejiang Science and Technology Association, the Coastal and Urban Geotechnical Engineering Research Center of Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Urban Underground Space Development Engineering Technology Research Center and CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Institute Co., Ltd..
The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Professor Zhou Jian from College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Zhejiang University. Professor Hu Wei, Assistant to President of Zhejiang University delivered a welcoming speech. Director GuoJiliang delivered a speech on behalf of Zhejiang Science and Technology Association. Academician Gong Xiaonan introduced the establishment and development of the West Lake Forum of Geotechnical Engineering. With the theme of “Geotechnical Engineering Testing Theory and New Progress in Technology,” the forum invited a total of eight academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, including Qian Qihu, Ge Xiurun, Zheng Yingren, Gong Xiaonan, Du Yanliang, MiaoChangwen, Zheng Jianlong and Wang Fuming, dozens of well-known university presidents, industry leaders and other well-known experts in geotechnical engineering.
During the two-day forum, Academician Qian Qihu and AcademicianDu Yanliang made special reports respectively on the exploration and utilization of underground space and the testing problems in railway foundations and slopes. Thirty participating experts also discussed the new theories, methods and equipment of geotechnical testing technology. More than 200 people, including professors, engineers, graduate students from universities, research institutes, related enterprises attended the forum.
The annual West Lake Forumof Geotechnical Engineering has become an important brand and academic platform in the community of geotechnical engineering. Each year well-known geotechnical experts and scholars gathered in Hangzhou to discuss hot and difficult topics in geotechnical engineering and offer suggestions to our country's construction projects.
