Abstract:This presentation describes exact solutions for the seismic response of rigid cantilever walls retaining linear poroelastic or non-homogeneous elastic soil on bedrock which are obtained analytically under conditions of plane strain. Considering the non-homogeneous elastic characteristics of soil in the frequency domain, explicit expressions for the various response quantities, like the base shear and bending moment as well as the location of the resultant seismic force are provided. Parametric studies are presented to assess the influence of the various parameters of the problem, like pore water pressure, porosity, permeability, degree of non-homogeneity and frequency on the seismic response.
