The 9th ZJU-CEU Workshop begins in Madrid on March 16th, 2018. Prof. Yu Jian, Associate Prof. Jin Fang and 11 senior students from the Department of Architecture Zhejiang University joined Universidad San Pablo group for a 17 days’ exchange.
Head of CEU Department of Architecture, Prof. Pablo Campus, Proprietor of Future magazine, Mr. Gerardo Mingo gave welcome address on the opening ceremony. Prof. Eduardo and Associate Prof. Jin Fang spoke on behalf of CEU and ZJU respectively, reviewing the past eight years’ work and prospecting this year’s achievements. Prof. Yu Jian delivered a speech on “The Basic Concept about Space in China”.
The topic for this year’s workshop is the expansion of Hangzhou Buddhist Academy, with the aim of enriching its cultural and historical landscape. Our students reported their preliminary study from five aspects concerning Buddhist in China, Chinesization of Buddhist architecture, Hangzhou cultural landscape, Lingyin Temple and Buddhist Academy. Afterwards, students from ZJU and CEU separated into several mixed groups to discuss the topic.
After 5 days’ communication on the design topic, ZJU students then went visit Cáceres, Mérida, Córdoba, Granada, Barcelona and seven other cities to do field research on architecture.
ZJU-CEU Workshop starts from 2010, jointly host by Zhejiang University and Universidad San Pablo CEU, and supported by Future (a Spanish magazine on architecture). The presentation of this year’s work will be held in Hangzhou in June.
