Zhejiang University Holds 2018 Inter-University Symposium on Asian Megacities

Zhejiang University holds 2018 Inter-University Symposium on Asian Megacities (IUSAM) on May 5-6. With the theme of “Space Sharing in Virtual and Physical Worlds”, IUSAM discuss on topics concerning the relationship between sharing concepts and urban space, economic development and urban space, power, society and urban space, technology development and urban space, culture, psychology, arts and urban space, etc. Nearly 200 scholars from about 30 universities and research institutes from Philippine, Japan, Korea, Russia and China attend the conference, and 65 representatives give conference reports.

 

Three keynote speeches of IUSAM are: Innovation Space in Hangzhou by Xiaoguang Yang, Vice Dean of Zhejiang Urban and Rural Planning Design Institute; Industrial Heritage of Iron and Steel Metallurgy in Hangzhou: Virtualization or Visualization by Biao Wei, Professor and Certified Planner of Hangzhou City Planning & Design Academy; Digital Engineering, Smart City by Haifeng Jiang, Senior Engineer and Executive President of Planning and Development Institute of Power China Huadong.

 

After keynote speeches, a round table discussion is hosted by Prof. Haoying Han, Zhejiang University. Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, Mikiko Ishikawa, Professor at Hanyang University, Chang-Moo Lee, Prof at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hui Lin, Professor at Tsinghua University, Zongbo Tan, Associate Professor at University of the Philippines, Michael V. Tomeldan, and Professor at Keio University, Wanglin Yan join the discussion on “Urban Development and Space Sharing in Asian Megacities”.

 

Representatives are then divided into three groups to further discuss on the theme. Outstanding papers at the conference will be published in the special issue of “Harnessing i-City of Virtual and Physical Worlds” on Journal of Urban Management.

 

Representatives also visit neo-economy towns in Hangzhou and enjoy high-level Chinese martial arts.
