The Non-Profit Organization, Asian Institute of Low Carbon Design (AILCD) has just announced its 9th International Student Design Competition result. Graduates from our Department of Architecture Shen Lingyi, Shao Jing, Zhou Congyue, Liu Ziqiao, Ma Bin, supervised by Professor Gao Yujiang and Associate Professor Wu Jing with their work RE-MODULE! RE-RAILWAY! RE-ECOLOGY! have received the only one first prize.

AILCD invited students from all over the world to participate in its 9th International Student Design Competition by the end of 2019, the theme of which is Less is MOji – Reboot the City. The competition aims to solve the urban blight of Mojiko, Kitakyushu, requesting students to redesign the urban landscape, and to advise on the urban low carbon programs.

Introduction of the design work

RE-MODULE !RE-RAILWAY !RE-ECOLOGY !

The transformation of industrialization and the continuous advancement of society, how an industrial city will be transformed into an ecological city is the focus of our design. As an industrial city, Kitakyushu was one of the four major industrial zones in Japan in 1900, and the environmental crisis reached its peak in 1960. With the industrial upgrading and environmental pressure, beijiushu has started urban transformation, and the emerging environmental economy has become a new economic growth point of beijiushu. At the same time, how to use the new ecological industry transformation to solve the problem of hollowing out the city, and how to show the city's cultural temperament is also a necessary

condition for thinking.

The design site is located in the old port of mensi. In the era of great trade, multinational merchant ships berth here. After many years, it has become an important endpoint of north kyushu. Railway shows the track of urban trade cycle, anchors the retention of the inherent materials in the industrial age, shows the ecology-industry characteristics of north kyushu and the spirit of future development context, and aims to be the ecological display window of north kyushu.

We will have three loops as the main design idea RE - MODULE! Restart the module, and the module can be spliced to form the urban functional unit.

RE - RAILWAY! Restarting the railway, the railway connects the city, activating the urban link with the existing track, and transporting the module unit.

Adopting the modular approach of the whole district, the parameterization algorithm is carried out by utilizing the track of ocean current, so as to actively purify the pollution and provide rich and changeable urban activity space. The modules communicate with each other electronically, linking other ports in the ocean and linking cities by railway.
