This Symposium provides a platform for interested researchers to share ideas on recent technology development and applications of structures that are to be deployed mechanically or by inflation. It will be held in the autumn of 2008 by the beautiful West Lake in Hangzhou – A two thousand years old city located about 120 miles, or less than two hours by train, to the southwest of Shanghai. Marco Polo visited Hangzhou in the year of 1290 and was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the city that he was in total agreement with the Chinese who like to call Hangzhou - "Paradise on Earth”.

Theme of Conference: This Symposium focus on findings resulted from recently performed theoretical, numerical and experimental research, as well as hardware design, fabrication, assembly, and testing, of deployable and inflatable structures that are intended for space and/or ground applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Concepts and architecture of electro-mechanically deployed systems
· Concepts and architecture of inflation-deployed systems
· Space and ground applications of deployable and inflatable structures
· New and improved analysis, development, and test methodologies for deployable and inflatable structures
· Case studies of development of new deployable and inflatable structures
· Post-deployment rigidization of inflatable structures
· Shape measurement and control of deployable and inflatable structures
· Innovative deployment concepts and mechanisms
Language of the Symposium: English.
Symposium Fee: The registration fee is US$300 for the Symposium participants. Students will pay a reduced registration fee of US$50 to attend the Symposium sessions (not including the Symposium banquet).
For students and accompanying persons who wish to attend the Symposium banquet, a fee of US$25 each will be charged.
Preparation of Abstract: An abstract should be prepared and electronically submitted to gfl@zju.edu.cn. The following information must be included in the submitted abstract:
· Title of the paper
· Full name, affiliation, complete mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the principal author
· Full name, affiliation, and country of each of additional authors
· Person, if other than the principal author, to whom correspondence should be sent
· An abstract of 300 - 500 words and key figures
Important Dates:
· Deadline for abstract submission: November 30, 2007
· Acceptance notice sent to the principal author: December 31, 2007
· Deadline for full manuscript: July 30, 2008
· Symposium dates: September 19 – 21, 2008
Location of the Symposium: The Symposium will be held at the Zhejiang University Conference Service Center on the University’s Yuquan Campus, which is located only a few minutes from the picturesque West Lake. This center offers conference rooms equipped with up-to-date video/audio equipment and has been the meeting site for many international conferences and events. 2008年空间展开、充气结构国际研讨会

空间展开、充气结构广泛运用于航天结构中，如天线，太阳动力帆，遮阳罩、太阳能集成器、行星探测车等，甚至构造未来的大型太空殖民地。美国宇航局、欧空局和日本、俄罗斯的专家对空间展开、充气结构技术非常感兴趣，进行了大量的研究，并进行了一定的空间环境实践。国内对该项技术的研究处于起步阶段，有待加强。此次研讨会给国内外学者提供一个平台，交流机械展开或充气展开空间结构的最新技术进展和运用经验。研讨会将于2008年的秋天在中国杭州美丽的西子湖畔召开。
会议主题：此次研讨会针对可展开航天结构的理论、数值和实验研究，样机设计，加工，装配，展开测试等。会议的内容包括，但不限制：
· 电机驱动机械展开空间系统的概念和构造
· 充气展开空间系统的概念和构造
· 展开和充气结构的空间运用
· 展开和充气结构的可行性分析、加工和测试方法
· 新型展开和充气结构的个案研究
· 空间充气可固化结构
· 展开结构的在轨形面测量和控制
· 空间展开机构的创新

会议费用：
与会者需交纳会议注册费US$300（1500元人民币），欢迎学生参加讨论会（不参加会议宴会），学生需交纳会议注册费US$50（200元人民币）。
对于需要参加会议宴会的学生和与会者的随行眷属，每位需交纳US$25 (or ¥150)。
