作者简介:
Dr. Tutumluer has research interests and expertise in testing and modeling of pavement and railroad track geo-materials, i.e., base/ballast unbound aggregates; recycled aggregates and their unbound applications, shape, texture, angularity characterization of aggregates using video-imaging techniques, use of geosynthetics in pavements/railroad track, modeling of particulate media using discrete and finite element methods, artificial intelligence in the form of neural network modeling, mechanistic based pavement design, and nondestructive pavement evaluation. Dr. Tutumluer Also has conducted several studies on anisotropy and stress dependency of aggregates affecting structural response and performance of flexible pavements with unbound aggregate layers.
Dr. Tutumluer is currently working on three railroad research projects funded by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). The current project focuses on the development of a combined image analysis and discrete element modeling (DEM) approach for analyzing ballast aggregate behavior and improving railroad ballast strength and stability, and manufactured crosstie designs. Another project involves the development of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to evaluate railway track subsurface condition and estimate track bed materials’ physical properties.
Dr. Tutumluer was the recipient of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB’s) Fred Burgraff award for Excellence in Transportation Research. Dr. Tutumluer is currently the chair of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) Geo-Institute’s Pavements Committee and the co-editor of five ASCE Geotechnical Special Publications on recent advances in transportation materials characterization, pavement engineering, and pavement mechanics and testing. He is also a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA) Committee 1 on “Ballast.” Dr. Tutumluer is also the Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Pavement Engineering, ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, ASCE International Journal of Geomechanics. In addition, he has also been an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Pavement Research and Technology.
