Postgraduate Research Scholarships

The Institute for Infrastructure Engineering (IIE) at the University of Western Sydney (UWS) expands engineering research beyond civil and electronic engineering into the areas of structural systems, computational mechanics, construction materials, and structural health monitoring.

The Institute is committed to excellence and is home to world class research facilities including one of Australia’s best laboratories for independent testing and monitoring for the construction and manufacturing industries.

IIE invites applications from highly motivated graduates seeking to undertake PhD projects in one of the following four research themes, including but not limited to the listed topics. • Computation mechanics, earthquake engineering and wind engineering relevant to the IIE theme of Infrastructure Computations (IC);

• Dynamic behaviour of materials subject to high strain rate loading and blast resistance, mechanical property of new composite concrete materials (nano, geopolymer, ultra-high performance, asphalt) relevant to the IIE theme of Infrastructure Materials (IM);

• Wireless sensing, motion and vibration assessment relevant to structural health monitoring relevant to the IIE theme of Infrastructure Health Monitoring (IHM).

Academic Criteria

Applicants should hold a First Class Honours degree, or equivalent (Master Degree by research), and/or research experience (including research publications) in a field such as Civil, Electrical, Materials or Mechanical Engineering. Preference will be given to applicants with research experience and publications.
