Municipal Wastewater Reuse in

Agriculture: Do Chemical Contaminants

        Pose Human Health Risks?

Dr. Cizmas, Leslie H.

Texas A&M University

Assistant professor Leslie Cizmas is a member of the  Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Texas A&M University. She has authored and co-authored over 50 academic articles dealing with the problems of the occurrence and toxicity of drinking water contaminants, health effects of complex mixtures and chemical exposure assessment in underserved communities. She was selected by the American Chemical Society as an outstanding chemist.

There is an increasing trend to require more efficient use of water resources, both in urban and rural environments. The reuse of water for agricultural irrigation is often viewed as a positive means of recycling water due to the potential large volumes of water that can be used.

However,water quality issues that can create real or perceived problems in agriculture include nutrient and sodium concentrations, heavy metals, and the presence of contaminants such as human and animal pathogens, pharmaceuticals and endocrine disruptors. Do chemical contaminants pose human health risks?

How to publish high impact research

in environmental sciences

Eric Lichtfous

Eric Lichtfous is a chemist working on soil carbon sequestration and climate change, using molecular and isotopic techniques (13C,14C). He is teaching scientific communication. He is Chief Editor and founder of Environmental Chemistry Letters, Sustainable Agriculture Reviews and Environmental Chemistry for a Sustainable World. He has also founded the European Association for Chemistry and the Environmental. He is also a triathlete.

English writing, like many other skills, is mastered by both learning and practice. A manuscript written in  proper English is the prerequisite for its acceptance for publication; however, the most critical criterion is still the contents of the manuscript, especially the novelty of your research finding. Hoping this report can find its role in helping to improve the English writing skills of young Chinese scientists.

Ferrate Technology in Sustainable

Water Environment: Current Status

Professor Virender K Sharma

Texas A&M University

Professor Virender K. Sharma is a member of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Texas A&M University. He has authored and co-authored over 250 academic articles dealing with the problems of Ferrate (VI) technology in sustainable water environment and the toxicity of nanoparticles in aquatic environment, especially for application of Ferrate (VI) technology in water treatment. He was selected by the American Chemical Society as an outstanding chemist.

1. Chemistry and applications of ferrates (VI, V, and IV) (inactivation of virus, bacteria, and toxins in water and air and removal of emerging contaminants such as antibiotics, estrogens and toxic metals in water);

2. Formation, fate, and toxicity of silver and gold engineered and natural nanoparticles in aquatic environment;

3. Applications of ferrites to destroy toxins and pollutants under solar light.
