Research Assistantship/PhD Studentship
in Structural Engineering
A Research Assistant is required to work in the following research project funded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council under the joint supervision of Dr. Yufei Wu of City University of Hong Kong and Professor Jin-Guang Teng of Hong Kong Polytechnic University:
· Ductile concrete beams with non-ductile FRP reinforcement
The main objectives of the project are to explore ways of deriving ductile behavior from compressive yielding mechanisms in beams reinforced with FRP bars and to develop the design theory for such beams.
If the successful applicant does not hold a PhD degree, the opportunity exists for him/her to be considered for concurrent admission as a part-time PhD student of City University of Hong Kong. The monthly salary will be in the range of HK$10,000-HK$12,000 for a Master degree holder and HK$13,000-HK$15,000 for a PhD degree holder. Provided satisfactory progress is made, the financial support will be available for at least two years.
Applicants must possess the following qualifications/attributes:
(a) A bachelor degree in civil engineering with academic results being within the top 20% of the class from a reputable university.
(b) A master degree; or completion of the coursework component of a master or PhD degree program;
(c) A strong interest in pursuing an academic/research career; and
(d) Competency and interest in both theoretical/numerical and experimental work.
Applicants with research experience in FRP and/or concrete structures will be given preference. Research publications will be an important criterion for assessing the research experience and achievement of an applicant.
