Various elastic viscoplastic models based on the overstress theory by Perzyna have been proposed and are described in the literature. The presentation presents the theoretical formulation of this type of models and highlights the abilities and shortcomings of such models to reproduce the time dependent behaviour of clays observed in the laboratory and the implications that these have when used in the analysis of boundary value problems.
 
报告人简介
Prof. Teresa Bodas Freitas is from Portugal and studied Civil Engineering at the University of Porto.After graduation, she worked for two years before heading to Imperial College London (UK) where she studied for both a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Geotechnics.Her areas of study during this period were in the application of numerical modelling to the analysis of embankment dams and, for her PhD, the development and implementation of elasto-viscoplastic constitutive models and their application to boundary value problems.Following completion of her PhD, and a couple more years working in Industry, Teresa returned to Portugal to join the Department of Civil Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon.Here, in addition to her teaching duties, she continues to investigate the creep response of soil but in the laboratory and is also looking to apply elasto-viscoplastic type models to the prediction of the thermo-mechanical response of civil engineering structures when they are used for thermal exchange with the ground.Teresa has published a number of papers on these subjects, was awarded the Stephenson Medal of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and has just co-chaired an international workshop on the constitutive modelling of creep in soils, in Beijing.
