内容摘要:
Because of the presence of discontinuities which originate from the fissures, cleavages, cracks, joints and even faults, natural rock masses are always inherent complex and inhomogeneous. Furthermore, the failures of rock masses are usually controlled by the discontinuities. Thus, to model the effects of these discontinuities, such as the effects of the initiation and propagation of the cracks, is very crucial to the problems involving joint rock masses. Owing to the capabilities of NMM in dealing with discontinuous problems, the Numerical Manifold Method, combined with the fracture mechanics, has been extended to investigate the crack initiation and propagation problem. By the extrinsic enrichment for enhancing the approximations, the limitation of the conventional NMM suffers for cannot represent the elements that are partially cut by the crack has been overcome. By incorporating the Mohr-Coulomb with a tensile cutoff crack initiation criterion, the mechanism of the cracks observed during laboratory tests has been investigated. With the developed NMM, the progressive failure of rock slopes is also investigated.
