报告人:澳大利亚阿德莱德大学 Chaoshui Xu教授

题目:Research in Rock Mechanics and Mining Engineering @ U of A

时间:926日(周五)早上10:00 am

地点:紫金港校区海洋大楼311会议室

主要内容:

Behaviour of a rock mass at engineering scale is mainly determined by the defects or fractures it contains.  Rock Fracture Research Group within the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering of the University of Adelaide is a research group actively working in this area.  Its research covers topics such as stochastic rock fracture modelling, stability assessment of rock excavations, fluid flow and heat transfer within fractured rock masses, rock fracture mechanics, geostatistics and mineral resource estimation.  In this seminar, A/Prof. Xu will introduce some research activities of the group, with particular focus on stochastic rock fracture modelling and its application in hot dry rock geothermal applications.  He will also covers some latest development in fluid flow and heat transfer for fractured reservoirs.  At the end of the seminar, A/Prof. Xu will introduce briefly some research currently being conducted in the civil and structural research group which is the largest research group within the School.

Chaoshui Xu教授简介:

A/Prof. Xu has over thirty years of experience working for mining academic institutions and the industry.  His research interests cover many areas including geostatistics, mineral resource evaluation, risk assessment of mining project, optimal mine design, rock fracture mechanics, stochastic rock fracture modelling, fluid flow and heat transfer in porous or fractured rock.

A/Prof. Xu’s major achievements include the development of a commercial software product, MINVEST, for financial evaluation and risk assessment of mining projects, which won the top prize of 1995 UK Business Software Challenge Competition; and the development the CCNBD (Cracked Chevron-Notched Brazilian Disc) specimen for rock fracture toughness testing, which is now an ISRM (International Society for Rock Mechanics) suggested method for the measurement of Mode I rock fracture toughness.
